About the Friends:

About the Friends:

The Friends of the Bloomfield Public Libraries run two book sales each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. All proceeds from the sale go to help support the unbudgeted needs of both Prosser Public Library and the Wintonbury Branch. The Friends also host an annual Spring Luncheon which features as keynote speaker a prominent member of the Hartford area community.

Current President: Judy Poliner, 242-0198
Please call Judy if you are interested in becoming a member of the Friends.

Monthly Meetings: The Friends hold meetings in Prosser's Community Room on the first Thursday of the month at 2:00 P.M., excluding July and August. All members are invited.

We also appreciate books about sports, health, politics, business and entertainment. We are interested in all children's books, particularly those about the major holidays. We accept videos, DVDs, cassettes, and music CDs and books on tape.

Please, no records, atlases, old textbooks, encyclopedias or Readers' Digest condensed books, professional books, computer manuals, or magazines, other than National Geographic. For additional information about book donations, please contact Julie Neaverson, at 242-2235.

Special Events:

Spring Luncheon:

The Friends' Spring Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 12noon at Seabury.
The cost is $20.00. This year's featured speaker is poet Marilyn Johnston. Please contact Jeanne Hunciker
at 242-6329 for reservations.

Poet Marilyn Johnston will read from her recent book of poetry and answer questions about her life of
writing and publishing. Marilyn Johnston was born and raised in Hartford in a lineage of Connecticut Irish farmers on her mother's side and Illinois Finnish immigrants on her father's. She holds an MA in English from Hartford's Trinity College. She left a long-time career in insurance communications to put her own writing center stage. In the past decade, her work has received five Pushcart Prize nomination. Numerous publishing credits include Worcester Review, Atlanta Review, South Carolina Review, and Poet Lore. Her first chapbook, Against Disappearance, was published as Finalist for the 2001 Redgreene Press Poetry Prize. Her first full-length book will be published in 2008 by Antrim House Books. Commitments to poetry and to community led her to work in the Bloomfield Public Libraries, directing a poetry reading series for Connecticut poets at the Wintonbury Branch. Johnston lives and writes on an old farm at the base of beautiful Talcott Mountain, with her husband, Ray.

Museum Trip:
This year's museum trip will be on Saturday May 31, 2008 to the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport and lunch at Ralph & Rich Restaurant in Bridgeport. The cost is $45.00. Please contact Linda Dranoff at 243-9068 for reservations.
